About Maya

Dr. Maya Starling is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 18 years of clinical experience, bringing a depth of knowledge and genuine compassion to every therapeutic relationship. Having trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and completed a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Maya has worked across a wide range of settings — from NHS inpatient wards and hospital environments to specialist private practice. She is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), ensuring the highest standards of professional practice and ethical care.

Maya specialises in psychological assessment and evidence-based interventions for complex emotional difficulties, including severe depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, and personality-related challenges. She also has significant expertise in supporting individuals living with long-term physical health conditions — including chronic pain, cancer, Fibromyalgia, and stroke — recognising the profound impact these can have on emotional wellbeing and quality of life. She works with young people, young adults, adults, and older adults, and sees clients both in person at her clinics in Brentwood and London Bridge, and online.

What sets Maya apart is her integrative, client-centred approach. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, she thoughtfully draws from a broad range of evidence-based therapies — including ACT, CAT, DBT, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and more — tailoring her work to each individual's unique needs, history, and goals. Clients consistently describe Maya as warm, compassionate, and deeply supportive. She places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of all her work, creating a safe, open, and confidential space where clients can explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behaviour at their own pace — without judgement.
